Starting on September 14, 2018, all emails that do not originate from inside of the WHCCD network will have a warning message prepended to the top of the email that says the following:

"This message did not originate from WHCCD. Consider this when evaluating the trustworthiness of the message."

If the email is HTML formatted, the warning will look like this:

This warning is intended as tool to help you decide whether or not to trust the contents and sender of a message.

Please note, that a message having this warning does not mean that the message is fraudulent. It only means that it did not originate from the WHCCD Email system.

Conversely, a message not having this warning does not necessarily mean that the message is legitimate, as attackers can sometimes hijack internal accounts and use their email to further infiltrate organizations.

Ultimately, it is up to you to decide whether or not to trust an incoming email message.

Scenarios where the presence of this warning message should elicit extra caution:

• The message claims to be from a WHCCD user
• The message is an invitation to share a file
  • Note that when a WHCCD user shares a file with another WHCCD user via OneDrive, the email invitation will not have this warning.
• The message asks for personally identifiable information, sensitive personal information, or other sensitive information.
  • Note that ANY message asking for personally identifiable information, sensitive personal information, or other sensitive information should be viewed with caution, regardless of the source.
• The message links directly to a page where you are asked to log in.
